Masaka family in 2023 multiple murder attacked again, woman killed

On June 24 last year, Ssemujju's family suffered a gruesome multiple murder when his father Ssalongo Emmanuel Mutesasiira and mother Nnalongo Proscovia Ndagaano were killed alongside his sister Nakavuma Nakamya, and their grandchildren, Robert Kayemba and Shivan Nakasagga.

MASAKA | A woman was killed assailants again attacked the family of a man that suffered multiple murder last year.

Mary Ndagire, 37, was last evening killed by assailants who reportedly fired several bullets at her husband Johnson Ssemujju, who had returned from work to find the assailants in the home in Nkuke Village, Buwunga Subcounty in Masaka City.

On June 24 last year, Ssemujju's family suffered a gruesome multiple murder when his father Ssalongo Emmanuel Mutesasiira and mother Nnalongo Proscovia Ndagaano were killed alongside his sister Nakavuma Nakamya, and their grandchildren, Robert Kayemba and Shivan Nakasagga at their home in Kijonjo Village, also in Buwanga.

The latest attack on the family has left the village in reeling, especially with the family yet to get justice for the earlier multiple murders.

Last evening, Ssemujju returned from his shop in Nkuke trading centre with his daughter at 9pm and found when the door at the garage was open. It was unusual for this to happen at night so he called out to his wife.

 

"His daughter entered to house to call out to her mother only to make a mud dash for the escape, telling her father that there were two men inside," Dan Kimbuggwe, vice chairperson of Buwunga LC3, said.

"Ssemujju and his daughter fled in a hail of bullets and the attackers jumped on a motorcycle and also took Ssemujju's motorcycle and fled the scene."

Ssemujju and his family have been waiting for justice for the murder of his parents and siblings even as Police made arrests in the case. But now he has added his own wife to the grim statistics.

Without complete investigation and prosecution of the culprits, the family remains in the dark as the motive of the attack. And the latest incident could only heighten their fears.

"For us we know that they arrested the wrong people," said Edward Kalyango, Ssemujju's brother.

"Recently, someone came and cut off the dog’s neck at home and now they have killed our brother’s wife."

Kalyango reminded the security team that visited the home that when his parents were killed, the also fired bullets.

"Police made investigations but until now they had never come out with a report to those who engaged in the killings of our father, mother and our children," he said.

The Southern Region Police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, told Nile Post by phone that they are very sure that the people they arrested on Ssalong Mutesasiira’s murder are real assailants.

"We carried out a DNA test using the blood we found at the scene and it matches with one of the people we arrested but it's just that they can be a team but we are going to make investigations to arrest others who are still at large," Kasirye said.

Witnesses reported seeing two mysterious figures dressed in black clothing near Ssemujju's residence hours before the attack.

"We were playing football in the evening at around 6:30pm," said a youth from Nkuke village.

"The two men were around the playground one was short and the other tall we finished playing at 7:30 and we left them there and what we heard next is that they have killed a wife to Ssemujju but, unfortunately, I can not recall their faces because they were trying to hide them yet we also never had any knowledge that these could be killers."

The playground is opposite Ssemujju’s home.

While authorities suggest the possibility of domestic disputes behind the killings, the lack of progress in the investigations only fuels speculation and fear.

Kimbuggwe acknowledges the challenges faced by the residents, who must travel significant distances to reach the nearest police station in Kyanamukaaka, which is about 10km from their village.

Kasijjagirwa Military Camp Crime Investigation Officer John Kansiime urged the residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the security team.

Despite the lingering uncertainty, the community must unite in seeking justice and ensuring the safety of its members.
